About Sea Oat Roots
Hi, I’m Maria—the founder and heart behind Sea Oat Roots™. Sea Oat Roots grew from my lifelong Christian foundation, my genuine love of Scripture, my personal connection to the coast and sea oats, the thought and prayer I put into every design, and my desire to create something that ministers quietly through what people wear. Elegant, wearable reminders of God’s Word—designed with purpose by someone who deeply values the meaning behind each passage.
Where My Roots Began
I grew up on Harkers Island, North Carolina, as a young girl in the 1970s, spending much of my time taking the boat over and running up and down the sand dunes along the beaches of Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout National Seashore.
Sea oats are a familiar part of the landscape of my life. They are not manufactured symbolism created for a brand. They were part of the actual landscape of my childhood—something I saw, walked among, and carried in my memory long before I ever imagined a business.
I was also blessed to be raised in a God-fearing Christian home, where a strong foundation of faith was instilled in me. My parents lived their faith. They fulfilled their roles, took me to church, taught me Scripture, prayed, served, and created stability in our home.
I am deeply grateful for my upbringing and for the intentional Christian home my parents gave me. They planted and nurtured my roots, teaching me to know God, to respect His Word, and to understand the importance of building a life upon faith.
Those early years became part of the steady foundation I carried with me, even through seasons when I did not yet realize how much had been planted.
What Was Planted in Me
Before I fully understood faith or chose it for myself, roots were already being formed beneath me.
My parents and family planted God’s truth into the soil of my childhood. They gave me stability, direction, and a foundation that remained present as I grew, faced life, and eventually made my own wholehearted commitment to the Lord.
Over time, my faith deepened and became wholly my own. God’s Word became increasingly meaningful in my life, and what was planted in my childhood grew into my present love of Scripture.
This is where I came from.
This is what was planted in me.
This is how those roots deepened.
And this is what eventually grew from them.
The Meaning of the Roots
Healthy roots do not exist only for the plant itself. They stabilize the ground around them and make it possible for more life to grow.
In the same way, faith that is faithfully lived can become a legacy—passed from parents to children and then carried forward into the lives they touch.
That does not mean every child’s journey will be identical or without difficulty. Each person must ultimately respond to God personally.
But being raised with God’s truth gives a child something immeasurably valuable: deep roots to return to, draw from, and become strengthened by.
My parents planted and nurtured the roots. Life caused those roots to deepen. My faith became my own. And now, through Sea Oat Roots™, something that began in my childhood is bearing fruit in a new form.
Why I Created Sea Oat Roots™
Wearable, Scripture-inspired designs became the right way for me to share biblical truth in a quiet, beautiful, everyday form.
Sea Oat Roots grew from a real life of faith, a deepening love for God’s Word, and a sincere desire to share biblical truth through something beautiful and wearable.
Over time, I found myself noticing the pictures within Scripture—the lamp, the wings, the potter’s hands, the roots, the shoreline—and imagining how those truths could become quiet visual reminders that someone could carry into everyday life.
I see these designs as more than decoration. Each piece is thoughtfully inspired by a particular passage of Scripture. The illustration, symbolism, placement, and meaning are all intentional.
In many ways, I think of them as small visual sermons—not loud or complicated, but meaningful images and words that point back to Scripture and invite someone to remember what God has said.
I pray over what someone may feel or remember when they receive and wear one of my designs.
My hope is that each piece becomes a visual reminder of God’s Word—something that may quietly encourage, strengthen, comfort, steady, or gently lead the person wearing it back to God’s presence and truth.
Sea Oat Roots is my way of taking what has been planted in me and allowing it to become fruitful—one Scripture-inspired design at a time.
From Roots to Fruit
God’s truth was planted in me.
My family nurtured those early roots.
Life caused those roots to deepen.
My personal faith became my own.
And Sea Oat Roots™ is part of the fruit those roots have produced.
My prayer is that this ministry will do more than reflect the roots God has grown in my own life. I pray that, through Sea Oat Roots™, seeds of biblical truth will also be planted in the lives of others—encouraging them to grow deeper and become firmly rooted in their own faith.
